Tong High School’s 6th Form
We have over 250 students in our highly successful and rapidly improving sixth form. You can choose from around 35 courses including A levels and BTEC qualifications at both Level 2 and 3.
Our pass rate this year at A2 was 98% and 58 students went on to University. The number of higher grades (A*/A and B) increased this year by 60% and many of our students as a result have been able to access the very best opportunities within Higher Education.
Our Post 16 results are consistently good and improving and our Value Added results show that our KS5 students make well above average progress in many subjects. Our staff are committed to helping all students achieve their best through creative teaching, careful support and monitoring.
Life in our sixth form is also about transition from adolescence to adulthood, and we aim to empower all students with the knowledge and skills necessary to allow them to access the highest quality provision when they leave THS6, whether that be in employment, training or Higher Education.
- All THS6 students are carefully guided towards the most appropriate programme of study
- All THS6 students are provided with an experienced 6th form tutor who ensures that their progress is closely monitored on a daily basis
- All THS6 students are also closely linked with one of our vertical tutor groups so that they can gain experience of mentoring and leadership
- All THS6 students will be involved in some community based work such as volunteering to work with younger students in one of our feeder schools
- THS6 students are expected to be independent learners who are dedicated to achieving their full potential. To facilitate this, all students follow an extensive skills programme where they focus on the development of key learning and interpersonal skills.
- THS6 students will all complete a two week Professional Attachment in January which supports their chosen area of study
- THS6 students will forge close links with local business organizations in order to develop business and enterprise skills and become more aware of the local skills gap
- THS6 students will forge close links with both local and national universities so that they can make informed decisions about their choice of further study
- Our most able THS6 students are able to study for 5 or even 6 AS Level qualifications in Year 12
- Our most able THS6 students are encouraged and supported to make applications to Oxbridge and the Russell group universities.
