Religious Observance – Eid-al-Adha
The religious festival of Eid-al-Adha is due to take place on or around the 7th of November this year.
As our Year 10 & 11 pupils are in the final stages of their GCSE preparation it is vital that they maximise their opportunities to succeed in the examinations. These will take place on 8th, 9th, 11th and 14th November in maths and in English.
This year’s GSCE exams are :
| Day | Date | Start | Title | Duration |
| Tue am | 08-Nov-11 | 8.30 | English Paper 1 Foundation | 1h 45m |
| Tue am | 08-Nov-11 | 8.30 | English Paper 1 Higher | 1h 45m |
| Wed pm | 09-Nov-11 | 1.00 | Maths Linear F NO CALCULATOR | 1h 30m |
| Fri pm | 11-Nov-11 | 1.00 | English Paper 2 Foundation | 1h 30m |
| Fri pm | 11-Nov-11 | 1.00 | English Paper 2 Higher | 1h 30m |
| Mon am | 14-Nov-11 | 8.30 | Maths Linear F CALCULATOR | 1h 30m |
We wish to assure you that all religious observances are recognised and respected, we have always celebrated our multi-cultural dimension and value this aspect of our ethos greatly. However, we are concerned that any absence from school or break from studies in the run-up to these important exams could jeopardise our pupils’ chances of success.
We wish to gain your support on this matter by asking you to limit the time you take your son/daughter out of school on this occasion to no more that 1 day. Clearly if your son/daughter is sitting an English examination on 8th November they must be in school on that day and they must have been given adequate encouragement to prepare for the exam prior to this day.
If your son/daughter attends study at mosque or any other study provision outside school we would welcome opportunities to work more closely with them to help to support your son/daughter in their achievement.
A letter will be sent out directly to parents next week and we would be grateful, therefore, if you could return a slip to indicate this.

Year 10 Curriculum Evening
On Thursday 26th May, we shall be holding a Curriculum Evening from 5.30-7.30pm, for families of students in Year 10. The event will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s subject teachers and to discuss the progress that is being made. You will be able to find out about ways in which we can work together to support your child as they prepare for this important year before taking their final exams and choosing their future pathways.
All Year 10 teaching staff, including the Connexions Careers service, will be based in the Atrium.
We have found that these evenings are most effective if adult family members can come along with the students, so that everyone is clear on the best routes to success.
Refreshments will be available in the restaurant.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 26th May 5.30-7.30pm.
Yours sincerely,
Miss A Reilly
Deputy Head Teacher
