Tong hosted what proved to be a very activity-packed camp this October. Young people attended the camp from schools around Bradford and also in Kirklees – meaning both the dance and sport camps were busier than ever!
Running from 10am till 2pm each day, with a charge of only £5.00 per day all participants left the camps learning new skills and making new friends. Parents picking up their children were also invited to participate in an Adult Zumba class at 1pm on each of the days. We want everyone in our community to feel a part of our camps.
Well done to all those young people who attended the sports camp and dance camp—we hope to see you at the next camps in February! Details available from Tong school, email thsldw@ths.bradford.sch.uk.

The English Department Halloween Literacy Day

To get into the spirit of Halloween, the Tong High English Department decided to have some fun with the students. The only (spirit) guide the teachers had was to provide a lesson that was fun, engaging and developed students’ literacy skills. The results, as you can see, were spooktacular. From Mr Spookwick’s Vampire and Mrs Scarefield’s Witch all way down the corridor to Miss Cowley’s Ghost, the staff and students’ had a great time engaging with The Monkey’s Paw by W.W. Jacobs. The perfect Halloween Ghost story that reminds us to be careful what we wish for…

Year 8 students also had the chance to make some spooky Halloween Lanterns whilst the year 12 students found out a little bit about teaching by planning and creating their own resources for other students to try. The Year 13 students contributed to the whole school literacy focus by creating reading resources for low ability students to use throughout the year.

A big thank you to all staff and students that took part in the day…

Religious Observance – Eid-al-Adha

The religious festival of Eid-al-Adha is due to take place on or around the 7th of November this year.

As our Year 10 & 11 pupils are in the final stages of their GCSE preparation it is vital that they maximise their opportunities to succeed in the examinations. These will take place on 8th, 9th, 11th and 14th November in maths and in English.

This year’s GSCE exams are :

DayDateStartTitleDuration
Tue am08-Nov-118.30English Paper 1 Foundation1h 45m

Wed pm09-Nov-111.00Maths Linear F NO CALCULATOR1h 30m
Fri pm11-Nov-111.00English Paper 2 Foundation1h 30m
Fri pm11-Nov-111.00English Paper 2 Higher1h 30m
Mon am14-Nov-118.30Maths Linear F CALCULATOR1h 30m

We wish to assure you that all religious observances are recognised and respected, we have always celebrated our multi-cultural dimension and value this aspect of our ethos greatly. However, we are concerned that any absence from school or break from studies in the run-up to these important exams could jeopardise our pupils’ chances of success.

We wish to gain your support on this matter by asking you to limit the time you take your son/daughter out of school on this occasion to no more that 1 day. Clearly if your son/daughter is sitting an English examination on 8th November they must be in school on that day and they must have been given adequate encouragement to prepare for the exam prior to this day.

If your son/daughter attends study at mosque or any other study provision outside school we would welcome opportunities to work more closely with them to help to support your son/daughter in their achievement.

A letter will be sent out directly to parents next week and we would be grateful, therefore, if you could return a slip to indicate this.

Bradford School Sports Enterprise Training Day

Thursday 6th October 2011
9.00am to 3.30pm @ Marshfield Primary School

High quality competition, high quality CPD and high quality delivery was the message of the day throughout the first training day held on 6th October 2011.

With an opening message from Bradford School Sports Enterprise Manager, Claire Caunce, delegates from Enterprise partner schools around South Bradford were welcomed and briefed on the new look and feel of the Enterprise moving forward. Information on the dynamic and varied competition offering was also handed out in the morning session. The afternoon saw a training session delivered by the Tennis Foundation on Tennis Teacher Training, and attending delegates took home a number of resources to use within their school, either for use in after-school clubs or in their curriculum. Attendees who had not trained with the Tennis Foundation previously also received Tennis equipment worth £500 – not bad for a day’s work!
