Once again the school and its wider school community partners enjoyed a hugely successful sport and performing arts presentation evening. Held in the school theatre packed with families, staff, and governors, and compered by sixth form students Liam and Natalie, the evening was run in the style of the BBC Sports award show. The prizes were awarded by the emerging Bradford Bulls stars, George and Tom Burgess, with the prize giving punctuated by superb drama, dance and singing performances courtesy of the Ignite group, year 7 singers, and sixth from students.
Systematically, each year group’s nominees were presented to the audience followed by short clips of them in action doing their favoured sport or performance. Their achievements spoken about by either the teachers from the PE or the Performing Arts department, the students were made to wait until the suspense was finally over and the winner and runner-up announced. Both then collected their prized trophies from the Burgess twins before returning to their seats.
The school awards were then followed by those of the young leaders and community schools and clubs. Our student leader awards are also amongst some of the most prestigious awards given, recognising skills and abilities in organisation, communication and people skills. Elise earned the young leader of the year prize whilst Shehzad and Sandra picked up the community volunteers of the year award. Sandra was so overwhelmed by the award, she managed to embrace everyone in the whole theatre!
Our sports assistants introduced the partner school awards and it really was a humbling and near to tears moment to see the nominees collect their prizes on the evening. Carrwood, Knowleswood, St Johns and Buttershaw were the beneficiaries, leaving with a memory to last a lifetime. Finally, to the last award of the night, and the blue ribbon one, the ultimate accolade “Performer of the Year”. Jodie and Lee were put through an agonising wait before it was finally announced that Lee was the winner…….
So to the thank you list; Claire Myers, Helen Midgley and Laura Dawson for their tireless work in organising the “behind the scenes operations”; Nici Yellop, Vicky Galloway-Place, Jonathan Murby, Nick McMahon and Neil Holmes for their total “hands-on” part in arranging the whole show; our sponsors including the Bulls, Aim Higher, Pennine Trophies, Sports Bulk Supplies and Lahores Indian Restaurant; the staff from the PE and Performing Arts departments for their help and assistance; Liam and Natalie for a super compere performance; our performers for their entertainment; and finally to our students, partner school students and their families for such total dedication to the cause.
