Notice for Year 8 Pupils

Dear Parent/Guardian,

In order to continue with our drive towards maximising the achievement of all young people at Tong High School we have decided to make some changes to learning groups in Year 8. This will enable us to teach your child in a way which best meets his/her learning needs through more focused grouping for learning in mathematics, English and science. Unfortunately this may mean a change in teacher for some of your child’s lessons and he/she will be issued with an amended timetable on their return to school in January.

We have made the decision to make these changes during the school year, rather than waiting until the beginning of a new school year, because we believe that this will best enable your child to realise their learning potential. We ask you for your support in this matter. If you have any questions about this process or require any further explanation please do not hesitate to contact either Trude Feiweles, Deputy Headteacher or Jane Girt, Assistant Headteacher at the school.

Yours sincerely,

Mr S. Curran
Headteacher

XL Club

The members of the XL club have arranged a community Christmas Party for the elderly in Holmewood. They have invited 60 members of the community to the Hope centre for a Christmas lunch which they will set tables, serve lunch and entertain, clear up after from 9.30am until approx 2pm on Tuesday 14th December.

Pat Trueman is coming in to demonstrate and help them make the centre pieces which they will be selling as part of their enterprise project for £3.00 each.

Also we URGENTY need raffle prizes if you have anything please.

After School Badminton

Badminton has reached a whole new level at Tong High School, after demand soared following a series of successful after school club sessions.

Tom Millbank, a level 3 coach at a local Badminton Performance centre, has been brought into Tong to help improve the skills and performance of our young people.

Funded by South Bradford School Sport Partnership through the School Sports Coaching Programme, the sessions have proved to be so popular a second dedicated Girls club has been started, running on Mondays.

“The response from our young people has been fantastic. Tom Millbank has really helped to engage them and improve their skillset. The overspill of numbers into a second group really shows how successful the programme has been.”
Jason Baddeley, School PE Teacher

As well as being popular, the series of after school clubs has had a particularly positive impact on those students taking the GCSE PE.

“Our evidence indicates that the badminton programme has really improved the skills of our students. As well as this, there has also been an improvement in the behaviour of our students, and this in turn impacts on their attainment.”
Jason Baddeley, School PE Teacher
