Ramadan

The month of Ramadan is expected to start on 27th May 2017 and we would like to take this opportunity to wish you Ramadan Mubarak and best wishes in all your preparations.  As you are aware the fasts this year will be very long and can be difficult for some children.  We know that you will have thought carefully about whether your child fasts and school will be respectful of your decision.  Obviously at school we would like to make appropriate arrangements for children who are fasting to be supported in their efforts.  If you would like to discuss ways in which school can support your child please contact the relevant year team or a member of the leadership team.

The link below contains some useful information regarding fasting during the exam season.

Tong Leadership Academy hosts Primary Schools Sports, Arts and Leaders Awards

The talents of primary school children were celebrated this week as Tong Leadership Academy once again proudly hosted the Sports, Arts and Leaders Awards for local primary schools.

On Wednesday 3rd May pupils from 12 partnership primary schools, their families and school staff attended to celebrate the achievements and successes of pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6.  Over 65 children were recognised for demonstrating exceptional performance and determination in Sports, Arts and Leadership.

This is one of the many events which Tong Leadership Academy hosts for local primary schools, allowing them to make use of the Academy’s excellent facilities.  Upcoming events at Tong Leadership Academy include netball, cricket and rounder’s tournaments as well as a Choir Extravaganza, Dance4All and a swimming gala in the Academy’s state of the art pool.

Post 16 students deliver outstanding performance

On 27th April, 6th form students performed to a full house at Theatre in the Mill, Bradford.  The showcase of exam work included pieces highlighting ‘Freedom of Speech’, ‘Human Rights’ and ‘Fame’.

Both Year 12 and Year 13 excelled in their performances.  The performance was extra special as this was the last time Year 13 students would be performing as part of Tong Leadership Academy.

We received this lovely quote from a proud parent: "Last night’s performance at Theatre in the Mill was absolutely fantastic, it was not the typical high school performance, it was so much more. An array of talent in all areas, supported by dedicated members of staff.  The time and effort put in by all the students and the work done by all in the performing arts department was very apparent. Such engaging work and emotional pieces, taking you on their journeys with them.  Well done to all involved and keep up the good work".

Changes to the school uniform

As we have now become part of Tauheedul Education Trust (TET), there will be a change in our school uniform. We will be moving towards the uniform worn in all TET secondary schools.  The year 7 students joining us in September will be the first to wear our new uniform.  The new uniform will not be with the uniform suppliers until June at the earliest.  We understand that Natasha’s Schoolwear in Bradford offer a savings scheme for parents and it is possible other uniform suppliers may do the same.

There will be a transition period of 18 months for our current students in years 7-10 to acquire items as their current uniform needs to be replaced, with the exceptions of:-

  • All current students in years 7-10 will be issued with a new tie free of charge in September 2017 and it will not be permitted for any student to wear the current tie from this date
  • All girls will be expected to wear the new school blouse from September 2017 as the current open necked shirt is not suitable for wearing with a tie.
  • All students will be issued with a new lanyard, free of charge, in September 2017.

It is expected that all current students with the exception of those at Post 16 will be wearing the new uniform fully from September 2018.

Full uniform details can be seen on our uniform information page. http://www.tongschool.co.uk/school_uniform.htm
